At St. Peter's we value biblical preaching that interprets scripture in a lively, relevant way. Our preaching does not assume you are an expert on Christianity. Sermons are suitable for seekers and newcomers while being challenging for long-time Christians.
The word "sermon" comes from a Latin word meaning conversation, interaction, and even conduct. In our preaching, we prefer to talk with our congregation.
At St. Peter's we don't preach down to anybody.
Instead, we seek to--
- speak honestly and creatively about the Bible and what it teaches.
- understand together the teachings and the character of Jesus.
- talk about how to follow him better, and how to have a better relationship with God.
- be honest about the things that stand between ourselves and God, and what we might do about them.
- never to condemn, to impose guilt, or to criticize anyone in the congregation.
- invite people to examine their own lives in the light of God's love, and encourage every person to see what God's purpose is for them,

Our sermons emphasize....
- a personal, spiritual relationship with God through Jesus Christ that transforms our lives (salvation)
- trusting God and his power to enable us to do the good he wants for us (grace)
- sharing our faith with others (the Great Commission)
- loving, serving, and lifting up our neighbor (the Great Commandment)
- understanding and speaking out about important issues of social justice (the Prophetic Imperative)
- beginning where you are, accepting God's ways in God's time
- openness to expressing and addressing questions and doubts
- accepting all comers
- welcoming and affirming those who don't feel they fit elsewhere
- celebrating the gifts and talents of our members
- equipping our members for ministry.
