Stewardship and St.Peter's UCC

St. Peter's is a diverse and welcoming faith community. We have many strengths. We have a good location and the building is in good repair. We have thoughtful, experienced leadership and a dynamic congregation with manifold talents. We have strong connections to our community.
For some time now, however, St. Peter's has operated at a deficit. This shortfall occurs in our regular funds for routine operation of St. Peter's. For the 12 months from October 2003 until September of 2004 this deficit averaged $2445 each month. From October of 2004 through March of 2005 the deficit averaged $2190. We have made some progress but other steps need to be taken. All of us at St. Peter's needs to consider how to address this problem.

Bringing in additional funds through the use of our facilities is one way we have improved this situation. Reducing our costs also is a help. St. Peter's Council is considering several options over the past several weeks for stewardship. What can we each promise as good stewards of St. Peter's to insure our ministry for ourselves, the children, and our wider community? This is the question before the Council and the Congregation. If we don't address this question who will?

At the May St. Peter's Council meeting we will choose a program and strategy for stewardship. This will be presented to the congregation. First of all though, we each need to prayerfully consider what we each can do to be faithful stewards of our church home.
